UK: Precast Concrete Stairs & Staircases: Precast Concrete Staircase Suppliers

ABOUT PRECAST CONCRETE STAIRS & STAIRCASES

Precast concrete units may be cast vertically or horizontally; most factories use the horizontal method, either face-up or face-down, as better quality control can be achieved. Moulds for precast concrete staircases are usually made from plywood or steel. Moulds are designed to be dismantled for the removal of the cast unit, and must be manufactured to tight tolerances to produce good results.

Fixing and lifting systems for transportation must be incorporated into precast units, usually in conjunction with the steel reinforcement.

Bison is a leading supplier of precast concrete staircases. Their precast concrete staircases for single private dwellings have a maximum rise of 220 mm, and minimum going of 220 mm. Maximum pitch is 42 degrees. Their precast concrete staircases for institutional and assembly use have a maximum rise of 180 mm and minimum going of 280 mm. Risers are limited to a maximum of 16 in a flight if used in shop or assembly areas. Going may be reduced to 250 mm for precast concrete staircases in buildings with floor areas of less than 100 square metres.

Bison precast concrete staircases are cast in engineering steel moulds giving a Type 'A' finish. Landings can be cast integral with the stair flights or separate in order to achieve the optimum staircase construction. When balustrades are required on precast concrete staircases, it is recommended that fixings for these are drilled on site, allowing a minimum of 50 mm between the edge of the concrete and the edge of any pocket or fixing.
