ABOUT COPPER ROOFING
Copper roofing systems are available in two types: traditional and long strip. Traditional copper roofing requires standing seams or batten roll jointing systems, depending on appearance and pitch required. For copper roofing on pitches of 5 degrees or less, batten roles are appropriate, as standing seams are vulnerable to accidental flattening and leakage through capillary action.
Long strip copper roofing has the advantage that bays between 8.1m and 14.6m, depending on pitch, may be constructed without the cross welts needed for traditional copper roofing systems. Long strip copper roofing with bays up to 600mm wide can be applied to roofs with pitches between 3 degrees and 90 degrees, using 0.6mm or 0.7mm copper roofing strip. Long strip copper roofing is laid on a breather membrane which allows free movement between the structure and the copper roofing, while isolating the copper roofing from any ferrous fixings in the structure. All fixings in copper roofing should be made from the same copper as the roof, with nail heads being copper or brass.
