ABOUT CURTAIN WALLING
Curtain walling is made from sheets of glass or other material held in a metal frame. It gives a durable external skin to a building, while saving weight and space. Curtain walling systems are factory made, and are quickly erected on site by specialists. Curtain walling allows the early enclosure of a building, and usually involves no wet trades.
Curtain walling systems may take the form of units, which can be placed by crane, or stick systems which can be assembled on site from within the building or from a flying scaffold. Most curtain walling systems have aluminium bars, with grooves for gasket glazing and drainage. In cold climates curtain walling is provided with thermal breaks. Weather tightness of curtain walling against driving rain is achieved by pressure equalized joints and by drained and ventilated joints.
