ABOUT GARAGE DOORS
Garage doors may be supplied in steel, timber, or glass reinforced polyester (GRP), in a variety of colours include wood-effect. There are five main types of operation, all of which may be manual or automatic:
Canopy Up and Over. These have no horizontal tracks which would obstruct the garage space. This produces more storage space within the garage, and avoids problems of obstruction from gas and electricity meters. When the door is opened it forms a canopy, with about one third of the length of the door forming the canopy.
Slideaway Retractable Up and Over. Retractable garage doors slide along horizontal tracks within the garage. They disappear entirely into the garage when opened.
Side Hinged. These open in a traditional way, with side hinges. They leave the interior of the garage completely clear, but do need space outside the garage to accommodate their swing.
Sectional. Sectional Garage Doors operate on the same principle as roller doors, but are formed of horizontal door sections rather than narrow slats. Instead of rolling up, the sections slide along the ceiling of the garage in horizontal tracks. They provide minimum obstruction both inside and outside the garage, and are particularly suited to garages for high vehicles such as people carriers.
