ABOUT HOME LIGHTING
Home lighting fittings are available in a wide range of types and styles. The types of home lighting including ceiling pendant fittings, recessed ceiling light, wall lights, and table lamps. All available in a variety of contemporary or traditional styles.
The traditional type of light bulb for home lighting is the tungsten bulb, which may have a bayonet or screw fitting. However this type of bulb is not energy efficient, and the UK Government announced in September 2007 a voluntary plan for the sale of tungsten bulbs to be phased out over a period of four years. The largest retailers, and many corner shops, have agreed to stop selling 100 watt tungsten bulbs from January 2009, with 60 watt tungsten bulbs being phased out in January 2010.
The main current alternative to the tungsten bulb is the compact fluorescent bulb. These can be fitted into normal tungsten fittings. Compared with a tungsten bulb they use about 20% of the electricity, and last about ten times as long. Light emitting diode (LED) lights are even more efficient, using only about 10% of the electricity used by a tungsten bulb.
