UK: Interior Doors: Interior Door Suppliers

ABOUT INTERIOR DOORS

The cheapest type of interior door is the flush door, typically with a plywood surface and a solid sound-proofing core. Higher quality interior doors are made from solid timber, either softwood or hardwood. Moulded interior doors are made from compressed particle board, with a smooth skin. They can be made to resemble traditional solid timber doors, but inevitably appear artificial and machine-made, even when painted. Moulded interior doors do have significant practical advantages in terms of stability and sound proofing.

LEADING UK INTERIOR DOOR SUPPLIERS

The following UK suppliers of interior doors have comprehensive and informative websites, with information on materials for interior doors, and types of interior doors.

Jeld-Wen is a leading supplier of interior doors, which are supplied in timber, particle board, and plywood. Its Feature range is made from natural solid wood and real wood veneer. Its moulded range of interior doors offers a wide range of styles, including recessed panels and glazing. The Cambridge and Arlington doors offer an extended choice of smooth-skin moulded panel doors. The Cambridge features a Shaker design whilst Arlington is a classic 6 panel style with enhanced profile for a traditional look. The Santa Fe is a modern moulded door reflecting the traditional cottage style boarded door design. Smooth-skin doors can be decorated using normal painting methods, they are base coated as standard. Smooth-skin doors are not suitable for staining and are not available fully factory finished. Its Flush range of interior doors may be finished in plywood, veneer, or foil. Jeld-Wen also offers a Pine/Panel range of cottage style doors, in hardwood or softwood. In 1999 JELD-WEN Inc, the privately owned worldwide joinery manufacturer, purchased the former John Carr and Boulton & Paul companies from the Rugby Group to form JELD-WEN UK Ltd.

Chisleshurst Doors of Chiselhurst, Kent, are a UK based supplier of timber interior doors. Its range of interior doors includes: hardwood meranti doors; semi clear and knotty pine doors, which are a cheaper alternative to hardwood doors; oak doors; clear pine Brazilian doors, suitable for staining, waxing or painting; American white oak panel doors; 1930s period doors made of vertical grain hemlock; and pitch pine doors based on traditional styles using a mortice and tenon joint. Its website contains sections on measuring doors, fitting doors, and caring for your interior door.

Johnson Aldridge is a leading UK supplier of timber interior doors. Its range of interior doors is engineered to provide greater stability than traditional construction methods.  All stiles and mid rails are constructed with pieces of laminated timbers which are glued together and then veneered over to provide a much stronger stile or rail which will not twist or warp. The internal door  panels are raised and fielded on both sides and constructed of MDF with a timber veneer added to march the stiles and rails.  Using MDF in the interior door construction avoids shrinking and splitting of the panel which can happen in traditional construction methods. Applying a real wood veneer to an interior door provides greater uniformity in colour and improves the appearance of the internal door. Johnson Aldridge internal doors can be supplied with panels, which may be glazed. The Canute design is formed from vertical boarding. Johnson Aldridge interior doors are available in oak, meranti, beech and pine.
