The majority of metal profiled sheet is produced by shaping a pre-coated strip of steel or aluminium through a set of rollers, which gradually produce the desired section without damage to the applied coating. The continuous profiled sheet is then cut and packaged to customers' requirements.

Standard sections of metal profiled sheets have a regular trapezoidal profile, with the depth of the section dependent on the load and span. If there is a risk of buckling, stiffeners can be incorporated into the profile of the metal profiled sheet. Curved metal profiled sheets for eaves and soffits are made by brake-pressing from the same coated strip. Trapezoidal profiles may be crimped during this process.

Metal profiled sheets may be used for both roof and wall cladding.
