ABOUT NEWT FENCES & FENCING

Newt fencing is designed to contain the movements of newts, as part of an ecological conservation project. A typical newt fence comprise newt fencing panels which extend vertically about 375mm above ground, and about 375mm below ground. The newt fencing panels are overlapped by about 50mm, and a typically secured with aluminium blind rivets along the overlap joint.

The newt fencing panels are typically fitted into a 300mm by 50mm slit created by a plough pulled by a tractor, or in a trench excavated using a chain trencher or a mini digger. If necessary, the trench can be dug by hand. The most secure method is slitting, with the slit being closed up by driving back along the line of the newt fence with a tractor or other vehicle.
