ABOUT OAK HARDWOOD FLOORING
There are two main types of oak hardwood flooring: solid and engineered. Solid oak hardwood flooring is made of a single thickness of solid oak, and is available in 14mm and 20mm thickness. Engineered oak hardwood flooring has a surface layer of solid oak, glued to a base of strong particle board. Solid oak hardwood flooring has more character, particularly if the surface is distressed by brushing out the soft grain. Engineered oak hardwood flooring is more stable and rigid, and lends itself particularly well to use with underfloor heating.
Oak hardwood flooring is available as narrow or wide planks, the latter giving a more traditional appearance. It is available unfinished, with matt or satin lacquer, or with an oiled surface.
