ABOUT PATENT GLAZING SYSTEMS
Patent glazing is a cladding system where glass or similar material is used as a transparent external skin, usually for industrial buildings such as factories and warehouses. Typical patent glazing systems have strips of glass supported on two edges by metal glazing bars which can be up to several metres long. The glazing bars for patent glazing are typically set 600 mm apart.
The patent glazing bars have wings and a clip-on capping with cushions for the sides of each strip of glass. Alternatively they can be made for gasket patent glazing. Joints between patent glazing bars and glass are not sealed, and the patent glazing bars have hidden grooves or channels to collect and carry away rainwater. The overall effect of patent glazing is less decorative than curtain walling, but it well suited to large areas of external walling, sloping roofs, and north lights. Manufacturers of patent glazing normally supply and fix their own work.
