ABOUT PRE-FINISHED HARDWOOD FLOORING

There are two main types of pre-finished hardwood flooring: solid and engineered. Both are supplied with a factory-applied lacquer or oiled finish. Solid pre-finished hardwood flooring is made of a single thickness of solid oak, and is available in 14mm and 20mm thickness. Engineered pre-finished hardwood flooring has a surface layer of solid oak, glued to a base of strong particle board. Solid pre-finished hardwood flooring has more character, particularly if the surface is distressed by brushing out the soft grain. Engineered pre-finished hardwood flooring is more stable and rigid, and lends itself particularly well to use with underfloor heating systems.

Pre-finished hardwood flooring is available as narrow or wide planks, the latter giving a more traditional appearance.
