ABOUT STAIR BALUSTRADES
A stair balustrade is a protective guard rail, comprising a handrail and vertical balusters connecting the handrail to the treads of the staircase. It may be made of timber, aluminium, or steel. A wide variety of designs is available, both traditional and contemporary.
An increasingly popular type of balustrade for contemporary buildings is the glass balustrade, which is a sheet of safety glass fixed at its base, without any vertical supports.

LEADING UK STAIR BALUSTRADE SUPPLIERS
Richard Burbidge of Oswestry is a leading UK supplier of timber stair balustrades. The Burbidge traditional stair balustrade is available in either a post-to-post or a continuous handrail system. The post-to-post stair balustrades run in a straight line between newel posts at the top and bottom of each straight flight of stairs. The continuous stair balustrades provide a smooth curvaceous handrail, without newel posts rising above the level of the handrail. Burbidge traditional stair balustrades are available in a choice of timbers: pine, hemlock, dark hardwood and oak.
Handrail Systems Ltd of Sheffield specialise in metal handrails, including staircase balustrades, in stainless steel, brass and powder-coated steel. The stainless steel stair balustrades are widely used in the leisure industry, particularly for swimming pools. Their swimming pool products range from swimming pool fittings and staircase balustrades to entry systems comprising turnstiles, barriers and gates.
CSGS Ltd of Swanley, Kent, specialise in structural glass applications, including glass stair balustrades. A typical application is a continuous glass staircase balustrade formed from 19mm toughened float glass set into steel grounds. Such balustrades can be designed without any vertical structural framing, the strength of the balustrade deriving entirely from the structural strength of the glass.
