ABOUT STRUCTURAL GLAZING
Structural glazing consists of glass sheets held with strong sealants, and carrying some wind load. Sealant may be used to bond the structural glazing to concealed metal rails, producing an all-glass facade that has good weather resistance and is easy to maintain.
Since the 1970s there has been a growth in the use of toughened glass supported from framing members by edge or corner cleats or by threaded and collared pins through hoses in the glass. The joints between the glass panels are face sealed with a durable mastic or gasket.

An advanced example of structural glazing is the Lite-wall structural glazing system supplied by Space Decks of Chard, Somerset. This provides an uninterrupted outer surface of glass. The structural glazing is connected to the main structure by four or more high quality stainless steel fittings which are attached only to the inner sheet of the double glazed structural glazing unit. The outer sheet of the structural glazing unit can be designed with energy or solar reflecting coatings and/or silk-screen printing; it is not penetrated by the point fixings.
