ABOUT TIMBER WINDOWS
Timber windows consist of a timber frame, comprising a head, a sill, and vertical mullions. The vertical mullions are connected to head and sill using strong mortice and tenon joints. The timber windows themselves are likewise made up using mortice and tenon joints at the corners. Timber windows may either be casement style (either top hung or side hung) or sash window style. The glazed area may be a single sheet of glass, or smaller panes divided by timber glazing bars known as astragals.
To meet modern thermal insulation requirements, timber windows are usually double glazed. The use of low emission glass can provide further thermal insulation.
