ABOUT CEDAR SHINGLES

Western Red Cedar is a popular material for wood roofing shingles. Eastern White is also used. The shingles may be Handsplit and Resawn, Tapersplit, Straight-split, or Tapersawn. Hip and Ridge Units are also available. The term Shakes is used to describe more rustic, rough-hewn shingles. Shingles and Shakes come in varying lengths, usually 16, 18 or 24 inches, and in random widths. Cedar shingles may be used for both roofing and siding.

Designer cedar shingles are available, with a range of decorative end shapes. These include mitred, faceted, rounded, pointed, and concave shapes. Cedar shingles may be supplied with natural finish, or stained to customer requirements.
