USA: Gas Fireplaces: Gas Fireplace Manufacturers

ABOUT GAS FIREPLACES

Gas fireplaces are available as inserts or as complete gas fireplaces. In both cases artificial logs or coal produce a realistic flaming fire effect, but with the convenience of gas. For greater realism, some models employ a 'dancing flame' effect, which rises and falls to imitate a real fire. Others allow remote control of the flame height, with as many as seven flame profile options.

Some models are essentially decorative. Others can provide worthwhile heat, particularly when combined with a fan.

Gas fireplaces may be placed within existing fireplaces with chimneys, or may be fitted against any outside wall, with a direct vent to the outside. They may operate with either natural or bottled propane gas.

LEADING USA GAS FIREPLACE MANUFACTURERS

The following leading gas fireplace manufacturers have comprehensive websites, with information on all aspects of gas fireplaces, including online catalogs, colors and materials for gas fireplaces, and care and maintenance of gas fireplaces.

Heat & Glo. Heat & Glo, based in Lakeville, Minnesota, is one of the world's largest manufacturer of fireplaces, including gas fireplaces. Founded by brothers Ron and Dan Shimek in 1975, it operated initially from Ron's garage. It now supplies a full range of gas, wood, and electric fireplaces, including direct vent gas fireplaces. Most Heat & Glo gas fireplaces are available with an energy saving IntellFire or intermittent pilot ignition system. This provides an ignition flam only when needed, and has a battery back up system to spark the ignition flame in the event of power cuts.

Fireplace Products International. Fireplace Products International, headquartered in Delta, British Columbia, Canada, is a leading manufacturer of stoves and fireplaces including gas fireplaces. These are supplied under the Regency, Excalibur, and Hampton brand names. The Liberty gas fireplace is available in two sizes, giving a viewing area of 900 sq.in. or 676 sq.in. The Trinity Flame log fire effect uses three flames. Beginning in burning embers, the flame moves up through crackling logs into a free flame. Users can select from seven distinct flam profiles with the FireWizard remote control.

Kozy Heat. Kozy Heat, based in Lakefield, Minnesota, is a leading manufacturer of fireplaces including gas fireplaces. Kozy Heat gas fireplaces feature a 'dancing flame' effect, and detailed hand-painted logs, for greater realism. The Jackson XL Insert produces 36,000 BTH per hour. It has an automatic fan with variable speed control, and a variable heat output control allowing adjustment of the flame height and heat output. Complete gas fireplaces are available from 32 inches to 42 inches wide. Some Kozy Heat gas fireplaces are 'zero tolerance'. This means that zero inches are required between the fireplace and combustible materials.
