ABOUT OAK FLOORING

Oak flooring is available in two main forms: solid and engineered. Solid oak flooring is made from planks which may have square edges, or may have tongue and groove edges. A wide variety of qualities is available, from Select to Country and Wormy. Wormy grade has all the naturally occurring wood characteristics such as knots, color and grain variations and scattered worm holes and tracks across its surface.

Engineered oak flooring is made from up to five glued layers of wood, or fiberboard, with the top layer being of high quality oak. Engineered oak flooring avoids difficulties associated with solid oak floors, such as twisting, cupping, and gapping; however it does not have the traditional character of solid oak.
