ABOUT RADIANT FLOOR HEATING
Radiant floor heating, also known as underfloor heating, uses heat conduction and radiant heat to provide an even heat throughout a room. There are two main types: electric and water-based. Both main types of radiant floor heating, electric and water-based, can be used under a wide variety of flooring including tiles, stone, laminate, and engineered wood.
Electric radiant floor heating systems may use an electrical cable laid in a zigzag pattern, onto which a cement screed can be poured; alternatively they may use a pre-built mat with electrical wires built into it, similar to an electric blanket.
Water-based radiant floor heating systems use a plastic pipe, laid on the floor in a zigzag pattern. This can then be covered with a poured screed. Alternatively, the plastic pipe may be held in slots in a dense composite board, which also provides thermal mass.
