ABOUT SUMP PUMPS

Sump pumps are pumps designed to remove excess rain water or ground water from particular areas, and pump it away safely. The sump is a basin, usually made of concrete, within which the excess water collects. Sump pumps may of two main kinds: Pedestal Sump Pumps and Submerisible Sump Pumps.

Pedestal Sump Pumps are suitable for removing water from shallow sumps. They have a staineless steel revolving shaft, with the motor at the top of the shaft and the pump at the bottom of the shaft. In this way the motor is above the water, for ease of maintenance.

Submersible Sump Pumps have both motor and pump enclosed in a waterproof casing, normally made of cast iron. This is covered with epoxy to provide waterproofing. Submersible Sump Pumps feature permanent lubrication. Submiersible Sump Pumps are suitable for use in deeper sumps.
