ABOUT WATER HEATERS

There are two main categories of water heater: residential and commercial. Each may be powered by electricity or gas. Gas powered residential water heaters usually have a type of vent which requires only one opening through an adjacent wall or through the roof.

Most water heaters heat water in a tank, from which the heated water is drawn as required. Tankless water heaters are also available. These heat the water only as it is required. This avoids any loss of thermal energy from heated water which is not being used.

Rinnai tankless water heaters use a cool-to-the-touch vent system that provides sealed combustion and requires only one penetration through the roof or side wall. The heaters can have a vent up to 41 feet long, and are designed to operate at outdoor temperatures as low as -30 degrees F.
