ABOUT WOODEN GATES

The most usual type of wooden gate is one which matches into a run of wooden fencing. There are three main types of wood fencing: Privacy Fencing, Semi-Private Fencing, and Post & Rail Fencing. Privacy Wood Fencing provides a solid fence, producing privacy and maximum, security. The Fence may be formed as a Stockade, as Board on Batten, or as Vertical Board. Semi-Private Wood Fencing is usually formed by placing vertical planks on alternate sides of the horizontal rails, so that there is no direct view, but light and air can penetrate at an angle. Semi-Private Fencing may also have lattice as its top section, providing a softer edge. Post & Rail Wood Fencing is a traditional open design consisting only of uprights and horizontal rails. For a traditional appearance, the horizontal rails may be natural split, providing a rustic look.

Wooden gates can be provided to match into each of these types of fencing. High quality specialist wooden gates are also available. These are usually made of hardwood, such as Ipe or Teak, and are designed to be placed between brick or masonry columns.
